Day 7-Pt 1 (S-CAPE Safe House)

Today, 7/13, we had the privilege of visiting S-CAPE’s safe house. We took a tour of the facility and I was amazed by the beauty in and around the area. The home was full of color and inspirational messages. It looked like a place of love and personality more than a temporary shelter. My favorite part was the backyard. Equipped with a sitting area, garden, shed, and stray cat it was the perfect spot to relax. It was great to think that women who have been through so much can now have a beautiful place to call their own.

After the tour we gathered with some of the care providers, a social worker and house mother, to ask questions and hear their stories. There was so much to learn from these women as they interacted with the survivors on a daily basis. I was inspired by their dedication and strength as I could only imagine the stress a job like that can have on a person. And I admire how much they sacrifice in their own lives to be there for the survivors. They’re in this field of work because they have a calling to help others and it’s clear how much they love the girls they assist. After a quick lunch break we soaked in the sun and had time for more conversation while the cat, Ginger, made her rounds for pets.
